It was a record-breaking Giving Hearts Day, a 24-hour event benefitting more than 600 charities throughout North Dakota and northwest Minnesota.

Giving Hearts Day 2024 Shatters Record by $3 Million


FARGO – It was a record-breaking Giving Hearts Day, a 24-hour fundraising event benefitting more than 600 charities throughout North Dakota and northwest Minnesota. Unaudited figures indicate that charities raised a preliminary figure of $29,043,925 million — $3 million more than last year — from 40,644 donors.

A total of 87,520 donations were made. Giving Hearts Day charities have now raised nearly $195 million since the event’s inception in 2008. Official giving statistics and details will be released after all data is verified.

Five charities raised more than $1 million this year (in alphabetical order):

  1. Hospice of the Red River Valley
  2. New Life Center
  3. Oak Grove Lutheran School
  4. University of North Dakota Foundation
  5. YWCA Cass Clay

Donors also had the opportunity to record a food or goods donation at one of more than 125 drop-off locations throughout the region and to record an act of service during the Giving Hearts Day season (Jan. 2-Feb. 8). In total, 1,724 acts of service were reported and pledged.

Below are some of the notable winners of Giving Hearts Day boost dollars and Golden Tickets:

  • $50,000 winner of Gate City Bank Nomination Contest: Rape & Abuse Crisis Center
  • $20,000 winner of Golden Ticket from DMF: Brave the Shave
  • $20,000 winner of Golden Ticket from DMF: Golden Drive Homeless Kids
  • $10,000 winner of Golden Ticket from Alex Stern Family Foundation: Fix It Forward Ministry
  • $5,000 winner of Bell Bank Social Challenge: New Life Center
  • $5,000 winner of Bell Bank Social Challenge: Grace & Grit
